You just can’t beat an animated gif now and again…

This is pretty incredible. If you can get past the cheesy production and sometimes dodgy camera panning and editing there’s actually a very interesting watch on how Adams worked to create his famous photos. He was dodging and burning photos left-right and centre to get the shots he wanted. I bet he would have loved the creativity that Lightroom gives to edit photos. Watching this really makes me want to step in to a darkroom and process some film. Something very alluring about the analogue work flow of processing in a darkroom. Inspirational stuff.

This really is very, very cool. These will be commercially available soon. Shame the test flight uses a dummy not a real person and is controlled remotely, but it’s still impressive.

Been shooting with the M9 for a few months now. I must say I love this camera. Something very special about the photos it produces. Hope you agree…

A few months ago it would have seemed impossible for me to shoot with any other camera than my Canon 5DmkII. But a turn of events and a paradigm shift in the way I want to take photos and here we are. I now have a Leica M9 and 35mm Summicron f/2 ASPH lens. The M9 is arguably one of the finest full-frame 35mm digital cameras ever made.
The price is fully justifiable as the image quality is just so fine. The optics made by Leica when pared with the M9 are out of this world. Sharpness across the whole photo even at wide apertures. The shooting experience with the M9 is very much back to basics. I love the simplicity of it’s design. The antithesis of today’s modern DSLR cameras, covered in buttons and loaded with menus and screens to navigate.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love my Canon 5DmkII and will continue to use it for commercial work that demands fast working and less thought during use. But the M9 strips everything back, back to days gone by when the camera was a tool for your expression and you had to be in control to get the most out of it. The move to a rangefinder system is a bit of a culture shock after using high-speed autofocus systems on DSLRs. The M9 is fully manual in focusing. You need to line up 2 images in the viewfinder to focus on your subject. There are situations where this is tricky so you need to know what you are doing. The best thing with a rangefinder is to approximate the distance to the subject before even lifting the camera to your eye. Set the lens to that distance and then when you life the camera up you only need to make a small adjustment and you’ve focused perfectly.
I’m still very much learning the ropes with this new camera and plan to use it for my commercial work that will allow for a slightly different way of working. Here’s some example photos from this beast! Absolutely stunning colour rendition and contrast I think you’ll agree!

Here’s a photo snapped on my brilliant Leica X1 on a recent walk in the beautiful countryside in Wargrave. This mighty oak dominated the landscape.

Before the event of super powerful games consoles, I used to spend most of my time playing games on my Amiga. What a machine. Looks like it’s set to make a return. Excellent!

Well, here they are. The hot off the presses Weetabix boxes featuring no less than three of my photos. Fantastic! The three are the ones in green on the diagram below. Next time you’re eating your breakfast, look at my handiwork and then give me a call and I’ll take some photos for you too!

Dan is a great example of a photographer who goes the extra mile for a client. He recently delivered us a set of location shots for our new website. His approach was professional and his understanding of the brief, exceptional. The output was a set of images which exceeded all expectation and capture the spirit of Weetabix Country beautifully. I would highly recommend him and will consider using him for other projects in the future.
